Peas come from the Middle East, originally they were eaten dried. Nowadays, peas are eaten fresh or from frozen and the most common are garden peas. When harvested young, garden peas, are petit pois. Other forms of peas are: mange tout, snow peas and sugar peas. Garden peas come canned, dried, puréed, or in soups like pea soup. Snow peas are popular in Chinese stir-fry dishes.
