Pears come in a range of varieties, known for their different colour, textures and sizes. Pears are eaten fresh and used for cooking and pickling. Popular British varieties of pear include: Comice, Conference and Williams'. Pears can be eaten fresh, cut into fruit salads or with cheese.

Peckham's Triumph is a good pear for cooking and pickling.

Pears also come canned and can be served as a dessert with cream or other fruits. Pears are excellent poached in wine or redbush tea, or can like apples be pur&eacuteed.
