Genmaicha or Genmai Cha is an unusual mix of green Sencha and toasted, toasted rice grains, puffed rice that look like popcorn, hence it is sometimes known as "Popcorn Tea".

After brewing, genmaicha remains clear and pale green. Genmaicha has an underlying green tea astringent taste, with a mild smoky flavour that can have a roasted after-taste that is somewhat off-putting. Drink genmaicha is the perfect accompaniment to a Japanese lunch and can be drunk in the afternoon, but should not be drunk in the evening.
