Bilberry, Huckleberry or Whortleberry is an acidic-tasting berry when used raw. Bilberries are different from blueberries, but often interchanged/confused. Bilberries are used mainly in desserts, preserves and sweets. Bilberry is also made into wine in central Europe, for drinking as alcohol and for medicinal purposes. Bilberries are available throughout the summer.
