Bancha

Bancha is the everyday green tea or cha from Japan. In picking, the tip and the next four leaves are plucked. Bancha is low in theine. Bancha Hougicha or Hoji-cha includes fragrant stems and has been toasted to turn it slightly brown, giving a darker coloured drink but which is light like a normal green tea, mild and well-balanced.

Bancha can be drunk throughout the day, preferably plain.

Infusion

  • Quantity: 1 teaspoon (2½ g) per cup or person
  • Water: 80oC (175oF)
  • Brew time: 3 - 4 minutes
