Andaliman Pepper (or Indonesian citrus pepper) is an unusual pepper from Northern Sumatra. Andaliman tastes citrussy and a mild numbing sensation similar to sichuan pepper.

Andaliman Pepper is related to sichuan pepper. Andaliman pepper is small has a strong and bright lemon and lime aroma, a bit like lemon sherbets. The taste of Andaliman pepper is, also, of lime and orange flavours with the same (but lighter) tongue-numbing sensation you get from sichuan pepper. Indigenous to Sumatra, the Bataks of north Sumatra have grown Andaliman pepper, their staple pepper, for many years.

Andaliman Pepper is substitutable for black pepper in any dish, but is really good with chicken, red meat and fish.
